What: English Language Arts readiness standards implementation training
When: Spring and fall 2009
Where: Through education service centers, large school districts and (soon) online
Training for the newly adopted English language arts (ELA) college and career readiness standards is occurring during the summer and fall of 2009. This professional development is part of a larger suite of training that briefs K-12 educators on:
- ELA essential knowledge and skills (TEKS)
- Spanish language arts TEKS
- English language proficiency standards (ELPS)
- English language arts college and career readiness standards
- Cross-disciplinary college and career readiness standards
ELA professional development is being delivered by education service centers (ESCs) and large school district trainers using a training of trainers model. Contact the ESC nearest you for more information about local training dates.
Online
An online variant of the English language arts college and career readiness standards training is also being developed. This training will be available in modules so that it can be used independently by educators to receive credit, or in workshops and meetings. Each module will be premised on the classroom implementation of the readiness standards. Modules will be updated over time based on suggestions for future topics and feedback.
Mathematics Professional Development

What: Mathematics college and career readiness standards implementation training
When: 2010
Where: Through education service centers, large school districts and online
Training for the newly adopted mathematics college and career readiness standards is occurring during 2010. This professional development will focus on:
- Mathematics essential knowledge and skills (TEKS)
- Mathematics college and career readiness standards
- Cross-disciplinary college and career readiness standards
Mathematics professional development will be delivered using a training-of-trainers model. Trainers from education service center and large school district trainers will attend briefing sessions in (TBD) 2010.
